October Is My Special Month

October has always been my favorite month.
Maybe it’s because it’s my birthday month, or perhaps it’s the combination of crisp air, brilliant foliage, and the unmistakable feeling that change is in the wind. Whatever the
reason, October has always felt like a personal invitation to reinvent myself.
Another birthday? Bring it on! I’ve earned every candle on that cake, along with a few battle scars, hardwon lessons, and enough stories to fill several books. I’ve learned that life rarely follows the script we so carefully write, but sometimes the unexpected surprises turn out
to be the most interesting chapters. I am profoundly grateful for the family and friends who have stood by me, the challenges that have made me tougher, and the sheer privilege of
being here to celebrate another trip around the sun.
I hope to grow older boldly, with a healthy dose of mischief, curiosity, and perhaps a few plot twists.
And speaking of plot twists, this October finds me knee-deep in finishing my latest thriller, where secrets simmer, danger lurks, and my characters have developed an annoying habit of refusing to behave. There’s something deliciously satisfying about creating chaos on the page while trying to maintain a semblance of order in real life. New ideas are already whispering in my ear, tempting me with fresh challenges and stories demanding to be told. Retirement? Slowing down? Not in my vocabulary. I’m far too busy dreaming up trouble, chasing ideas, and discovering what comes next.
October reminds me that renewal doesn’t require too clean a slate; sometimes it simply means having the nerve to shake things up and begin again. I’m grateful for where I’ve been, excited about where I’m headed, and determined to squeeze every ounce of adventure out of the years ahead. After all, I’m not finished writing my story—and I have every intention of making the next chapters impossible to put down.

WHAT’S A NEWSLETTER WITHOUT NEWS?
One new role I’m taking on, is professional book reviewer. I will post reviews for books I recommend on both my website, www.janeloebrubin.com and my professional Facebook page. The first two great books I’ve read this fall are – Witches of Cambridge by Alice Hoffman and The Pirate Queen by Ariel Lawhon. You can find my reviews on my author website or Facebook.

Some more great fall events are coming up. I’m so pleased to be speaking for fund raising audiences, raising funds for important causes.

Speaking of fund raising. An enormous thank you to those who have donated to the Mathilda Fund to support Ovarian Cancer Research at the OCRA. The Fund is now up to $87,200. There’s still plenty of time to donate, big or small! We are only $12,800 away of my lifetime goal of $100,000. To put that number in perspective, $100K is enough to fund a research trial! Here’s the link to follow.

Last piece of news, a few weeks ago, I was asked to write an essay for CURE TODAY magazine, an oncology office periodical. Specifically, I was asked what strategies I followed along my seventeen-year cancer journey. Here is the link below – enjoy.
